We are thrilled to share some incredible news—Bali Monkey Rescue has secured 21 are (2,100 square meters) of land in Bali to create a brand-new sanctuary for our rescued long-tailed macaques! This land is rich with natural beauty, filled with towering trees and lush greenery, making it the perfect place for our monkeys to call home. While our design is still in its early stages, we are excited to give you a glimpse of what’s to come.

A Playground for Monkeys
At the heart of our new sanctuary will be a huge central enclosure—a playground designed just for the monkeys. This open space will allow them to climb, swing, and explore in an environment as close to the wild as possible. Surrounding this central playground will be larger, more enriching enclosures where our monkeys will sleep, eat, and spend time when not in the main area. By rotating groups into the playground, every monkey will get the chance to enjoy the space while also keeping those with past conflicts safely apart.
A Sustainable Future for BMR
One of the most exciting aspects of this project is our plan to create a self-sustaining sanctuary. Alongside the monkey enclosures, we will develop a campsite and glamping pods, offering guests a unique jungle stay—right alongside their monkey neighbors! This will provide a steady source of income for Bali Monkey Rescue, making us less reliant on donations and ensuring the long-term care of our residents.
Working With Nature, Not Against It
Sustainability is at the core of our vision. Rather than clearing the land, we will work with the natural landscape, preserving the trees and integrating them into the design of the sanctuary. We also plan to establish an organic fruit and vegetable farm, including a dedicated fig orchard to feed the monkeys while also providing fresh produce for guests.
What’s Next For Our New Monkey Sanctuary?
We are still deciding whether our Monkey Release Programme will move to this new site or remain at the current BMR location. But one thing is certain—our lifelong residents will have a truly special home here. This sanctuary will be a place where they can live as naturally as possible, in a setting designed to meet their needs and honor their wild instincts.
We can’t wait to share more updates as this dream becomes a reality. Thank you for being part of this journey with us! 💛🐵
