Exciting News from Bali Monkey Rescue: A New Enclosure is Underway!

At Bali Monkey Rescue (BMR), we’re thrilled to share an exciting update—construction is well underway for one of our largest monkey enclosures yet! This new space isn’t just big; it’s been thoughtfully designed with our monkeys’ well-being in mind, complete with a swimming pool, climbing structures, and an array of enrichment toys to keep our primate friends happy, active, and thriving.

This enclosure marks a significant milestone as it’s the second space built specifically for monkeys who are part of our Release Programme. These enclosures play a critical role in preparing our rescued monkeys for life back in the wild, offering them opportunities for social bonding, natural behaviors, and the physical exercise they need.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity of Michelle. After bringing her own rescue monkey Molly into our care, Michelle saw firsthand the challenges we face with limited resources. Touched by our dedication to the monkeys, she decided to fund not one, but two large enclosures for us. The first is already completed and thriving, and this second enclosure is currently being brought to life thanks to her kindness and vision.

Sustainability has also been a key focus in this project. To save costs and reduce our environmental impact, we’ve repurposed materials from older enclosures to build this new space. This approach not only helps us stretch our resources further but also aligns with our commitment to protecting the environment alongside caring for our monkeys.

Of course, we couldn’t talk about our enclosures without mentioning Tony—our go-to builder and a cherished member of the BMR team. Tony has been instrumental in building most of our enclosures, and his craftsmanship ensures that every structure is safe, sturdy, and tailored to our monkeys’ needs.

We expect the new enclosure to be ready within the next month, and once complete, Sari and the team will carefully assess which monkeys will form the next colony. It’s an exciting time, not just for us, but especially for the monkeys who will soon call this incredible space their home.
