At Bali Monkey Rescue (BMR), we are thrilled to announce a major step forward in our mission to provide the best possible care for our rescued long-tailed macaques. We now have our very own dedicated Bali veterinarian, Jose, of Bahtera Vet Care, who has joined our team to ensure the health and well-being of our monkeys.

Meet Jose: A Passion for Conservation and Animal Welfare
Jose brings not only medical expertise but also a deep commitment to animal welfare and conservation. With years of experience working with wildlife and a strong belief in improving both the medical and behavioral well-being of captive and rescued monkeys, he is a perfect fit for BMR.
His motivation as a veterinarian is rooted in the belief that supporting animal welfare through medical care, disease prevention, proper nutrition, and suitable living conditions is essential. He follows the veterinarian's slogan: "Manusia Mriga Satwa Sewaka", meaning "Creating community welfare through animal health." This philosophy drives his work and his dedication to making a difference in the lives of rescued animals.
How Jose Became Part of BMR
His journey to BMR began with a recommendation from a colleague, leading to an introduction through BMR's founder, Mrs. Sari. Recognizing the need for specialized medical care for rescued macaques, Jose felt called to contribute his skills and knowledge. Now, as part of the BMR team, he is dedicated to providing medical treatments, monitoring the monkeys’ welfare, and ensuring they receive proper nutrition.
A Strong Background in Veterinary and Conservation Work
Before joining BMR, Jose worked in veterinary clinics alongside colleagues, gaining valuable hands-on experience in treating animals. His passion for conservation led him to volunteer with several organizations, including:
ACCI (Animal Conservation Center Indonesia)
Conservation Response Unit (CRU)
Syiah Kuala University Wildlife Study Center
SPANA Charity
Co-founder of Sahabat Gajah Sumatera (Sumatran Elephant Friends)
His extensive background in both domestic animal care and wildlife conservation makes him an invaluable addition to our team.
A Vision for the Future: Protecting Monkeys in the Wild
Beyond his work at BMR, Jose strongly advocates against keeping wild animals, including monkeys, as pets. He emphasizes that keeping monkeys in domestic environments fails to meet their biological and behavioral needs, leading to stress, poor health, and psychological distress. Instead, he encourages people to support ethical conservation programs and visit reputable sanctuaries where animals are cared for under proper welfare standards.

Looking Ahead With Our Bali Veterinarian
The addition of a dedicated veterinarian is a milestone for BMR, allowing us to provide even better care for our rescued monkeys. With Jose’s expertise and dedication, we can continue our mission of rehabilitating, protecting, and advocating for long-tailed macaques in Bali and beyond.
We are excited for the future and grateful to have such a passionate professional as part of our team. Please join us in welcoming Jose and Bahtera Vet Care to the BMR family! 🐵💚
magnificent Jose, very much. Look forward to meeting you in person and seeing you in LOMBOK one day.
