Ari's Story
At Bali Monkey Rescue (BMR), each monkey has a unique and heart-breaking story. Ari’s tale, however, stands out as one of the most tragic we’ve encountered.
Rescued five years ago as an adult, Ari spent 5-7 years confined in a tiny wooden chicken coop, with little sunlight and no room to move. When he was allowed out, he was chained, beaten, and tormented by his owner, leaving him physically scarred and emotionally traumatized. This abuse led Ari to become extremely aggressive.
The BMR team faced significant challenges rescuing Ari due to his fear and aggression. However, our persistence paid off, and we brought him safely to BMR where his rehabilitation began. For over a year, we could only approach his enclosure from a distance to feed him, but with patience and compassion, Ari slowly began to trust.
Today, Ari is one of the most lovable characters at BMR, with a sparkle in his personality that is hard to describe. However, due to the brain damage caused by his abuse, Ari suffers from uncontrollable outbursts, which means he cannot be safely placed with a companion.
Despite this, Ari is a gentle soul who enjoys grooming and physical contact with the team. Though he cannot be released, BMR is his forever home. We are working on building him a spacious new enclosure at our new site to give him the best life possible after all he has endured.
Ari’s story is a testament to resilience and the transformative power of kindness. Every step forward is a victory, and with your support, we continue to give monkeys like Ari a better future.
