ABOUT
BALI MONKEY RESCUE
THE STORY SO FAR
Welcome to Bali Monkey Rescue (BMR), a sanctuary dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and care of Bali's long-tail macaques. Nestled in the serene landscape of Tampaksiring, Ubud, BMR carries forward a legacy of compassion and commitment.
Founded over 15 years ago by the late Lynne Mann, BMR began as a deeply personal mission. Lynne dedicated her life to rescuing monkeys from harrowing situations of abuse and neglect, caring for them in her home and funding their wellbeing entirely on her own. Though Lynne sadly passed away in 2022, her vision lives on.
Under the leadership of Sari Martinize, BMR was formally registered as an NGO Foundation in Indonesia, solidifying its mission to protect and rehabilitate Bali's vulnerable macaques. Today, our sanctuary is home to 46 rescued monkeys, each with their own story of survival and resilience.
At BMR, we run three active rehabilitation programs aimed at reintroducing suitable primates back into the wild. For those who cannot be released due to the lasting impacts of their trauma, we provide a lifelong sanctuary where they can live in safety, comfort, and dignity.
THE FUTURE OF
BALI MONKEY RESCUE
As the demand for rescue services grows, so does our vision. We are currently developing a new rescue centre just outside of Ubud. This space will not only expand our capacity to care for primates but will also feature eco-friendly camping and glamping facilities, an organic farm, a farm shop and café, and educational programs aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and respect for Bali's macaques.
Our ultimate goal is to build a sustainable foundation where every initiative supports our mission, and every resource directly benefits our beautiful primate residents.
Together, we are creating a future where monkeys are no longer victims of exploitation, but ambassadors of Bali's rich and diverse ecosystem.
Thank you for being a part of our journey.
